During our cruising we have come to depend on the robust design and construction to keep us safe, and Ola B has never disappointed us. Many people ask: “Why do you like a steel boat?” Many reasons of course, but we always tell people when you climb aboard the deck doesn’t flex under foot, the stanchions don’t wobble when you grab them and the hull doesn’t groan and grimace when the sea throws a punch at her. In sort, she’s a solid vessel.
We have owned Ola B since 1992 and were the first owners, buying it directly from Howdy Bailey the builder in Norfolk, VA. Prior to moving aboard full time, we kept the boat on the Chesapeake, although we lived at that time in Indiana. In 1997, we had a major refit, including complete new coating of the hull and deck. The work was performed by Zimmerman Marine, one of the top yards on the Bay, and we kept the boat there until we set out cruising, keeping her under roof in the winters.
Ola B is presently for sale. She has been very well cared for and maintained by the top yards on the Bay and by us once we began cruising full time. Equipment has been upgraded over the years, including a new Westerbeke 30B diesel with under 300 hours. We continue to debate among ourselves the decision to sell her, but we are searching for a little larger vessel to continue our cruising lifestyle.
So we are looking for caring owners who will enjoy Ola B as much as we have over the years.
